Marie Lund at Croy Nielsen

Phase is Marie Lund’s third exhibition in our gallery space here in Vienna. The title, Phase, defines a period in a series of events or a process of change. The exhibition features two series: Delay and Reach.

Delay is made of found insulation mats and copper bars from electrical circuits. Two materials carrying opposing properties of conduction and insulation, density and volume. A previous version of these works were part of Lund’s exhibition with RosalindNasashibi at Den Frie in Copenhagen, where they covered the door openings and kept the light out of the rooms used for film projection. The mats are now folded, compressed and pushed down further by the heavy copper bars.

Reach is a continuation of Lund’s sculptural work with glass enamel and copper sheets, appearing like thin wall hung ledges, reaching and sloping downwards. Thin layers of the copper and glass rest up against each other as a result of expanding and subtracting through high heat and cooling down. Their curves set up a lining in space. Soften, inhabit and activate it.

Marie Lund (1976, DK) lives and works in Copenhagen. Her work has been exhibited widely with recent exhibitions at Den Frie, Copenhagen; Botanical Garden, Copenhagen, Frac Île-de-France, Paris; Centro Federico García Lorca, Granada, Kunstmuseum St Gallen; Holstebro Kunstmuseum; Goldsmith CCA, London, Palais de Tokyo, Paris, Badischer Kunstverein, Karlsruhe, Tate Britain, London. Marie Lund runs Readers Studio, a library with books selected by invited artists, in her studio in Copenhagen.
