EN: The filming location for Raphaela Vogel's "Uterusland" was her birthplace Nuremberg, or more precisely the "Palm Beach" spa where she went as a teenager, this time with a lifelike looking baby doll. Camera operator, editor, costume and lighting designer, sound technician: Raphaela Vogel typically occupies all of these roles, including that of sole human protagonist of her videos. Thus if there is a thread that runs through the artist’s work like a red-hot vein, it is the centrality of the artist herself, unabashedly exposed and exposing; if not literally naked, then metaphorically so, baring it all. Inserting her lone self into a world of men, Vogel is a defiant agent, powerful and in your face, controlling her image in a cheeky rebuttal to masculine authority and everything it has for too long claimed as its own.

DE: Drehort für Raphaela Vogels „Uterusland“ war ihr Geburtsort Nürnberg, genauer gesagt das Spassbad „Palm Beach“ in das sie schon als Jugendliche ging, diesmal mit lebensecht wirkender Säuglingspuppe. Kamerafrau, Cutterin, Kostüm- und Lichtdesignerin, Tontechnikerin: Vogel besetzt typischerweise alle diese Rollen, einschliesslich die der einzigen menschlichen Protagonistin ihrer Videos. Wenn es also einen roten Faden in Vogels Arbeit gibt, dann jenen, dass die Künstlerin selbst im Zentrum des Werkes steht; ungeniert exponiert und exponierend, und wenn nicht buchstäblich nackt, dann doch metaphorisch, völlig entblösst. Vogel platziert ihr einsames Selbst in einer von Männern dominierten Welt und agiert dabei als widerständige Bevollmächtigte energetisch und direkt. Sie übernimmt die Kontrolle über ihr eigenes Bild, indem sie männliche Autorität mit allem, was diese zu lange für sich beanspruchte, forsch untergräbt.
