Maureen is pleased to announce Voyage, the second group exhibition presented at Morena di Luna Hove.
The title draws from Le Voyage Dans la Lune (1902), a silent film by Georges Méliès that follows a group of astronomers who travel to the moon and have to escape from its native inhabitants, the Selentines, one of whom is later taken captive by the astronomers and brought back to earth. Through its adventure, technological wonder, and absurdity, the film is frequently considered the first science fiction film in cinematic history and a piece of anti-imperialist satire.
The collective of artists gathered at Voyage share this spirit of transcendence and world building. Their works are frequently unmoored from any specific time or place to instead foster spaces of desire and projection. An intergenerational group of artists, they bridge multiple locales, spanning mid-century Antigua and present-day New York.
